The previous time Scotland fans observed Mads Mikkelsen was when he was a smooth, dressed in black, bad chap who wept tears of blood and took on James Bond (Daniel Craig) in a number of high stake poker games.
The Daily Record, however, reported that the most successful Danish actor of his generation looks quite distinctive today. He is battling the rain and midges in the West Highlands of Scotland, wearing rubbery rags with rough hair and an eye covered in prosthetics, while some Tibetan extras practice on ganging up and clubbing him to death.
Mads is the lead actor of the new Scots-Danish film called Valhalla Rising, where he acts as a Viking slave who runs off along with a troupe of Norsemen across Scotland over the Atlantic to reach North America. After reaching North America, he encounters blood-thirsty American Indian tribes that are played by a vibrant band of London-based Tibetans.
The crew has been shooting the film in the Highlands of Scotland for over two months, with various parts of Scotland resembling North America. The actor, took time off from his last day of shooting to speak to the Daily Record at the Ardnamurchan peninsula in Argyll.
The 42-year old actor claims his group of friends to be Brian Laudrup ex-Rangers star, Marc Rieper former Celtic defender and former Manchester United goal keeper Peter Schmeichel and he says he frequently plays footie with his friends at charity matches.
Mads claimed that he loved spending the summer on the busy film shoot across the Western Highlands and that it had been fantastic yet tough. He also said he had a strong opponent and co-star in the film. He said when they filmed the James Bond movie, he learnt a lot about casino poker and bluffing in poker. I’m sure after a good few shots of 10-year old Malt whiskey I would also be good at bluffing in poker… all in!
